Winter is the season when you're most likely to run into trouble
on the road. I hope this guide will help you with the worst weather that Old Man
Winter may bring your way.
HINTS AND TIPS:
1. Check your battery water levels.
2. Check battery wires for cracking and replace if necessary.
3. Clean battery posts and terminals.
4. Check all engine belts for sign of wear and replace all worn ones.
5. Check the antifreeze in your radiator to make sure it is adequate to handle
the coldest temperatures in your area.
6. Check your heater and defroster to make sure they both work.
7. Check the windshield wipers and the condition of the wiper blades.
8. Don't forget to keep the windshield water reservoir full of an antifreeze
water solution.
9. Check tires for proper air pressure. Underinflated tires do not provide
better traction on snow or ice.
10. Check the heater and water hoses to make sure they are not cracked
or worn and replace if necessary.
DO'S AND DON'TS DRIVING TIPS:
The first rule of driving on snow or ice is not to panic if you start to slide
and jam on the brakes. Instead, ease up on the gas and steer the car in the
direction that the rear of the car is skidding. When you have regained control
of the steering, you may be able to begin braking by tapping the brake pedal
in a light pumping movement.
FOR CARS WITH FRONTWHEEL DRIVE:
If you find yourself going into a skid, step down lightly on the gas pedal and
steer out of it in the direction that you want the car to go. Quick braking can
turn the car into a spin. But "DON'T PANIC."
My son drove me,eight miles, to my home on two inches of ice by following
these rules. Now I trust him to drive me anywhere in and kind of weather.
Now that we have covered the basics: " HAPPY DRIVING"
